The Madness Behind the MONSTER.

Took some behind the scenes snaps of the artwork & creative decorations being put together in preparation for the Monster Mash tonight at Factory Studios. Everyone that can should try to make it through.

Here's the woman behind the madness, Debbie and her 8 ft tall zombie hand.
Another friendly face at the setup, Greg AKA Mister Never.

Debbie stitched all these letters by hand!

The always lovely and very talented Ms. Adrienne Dowd.

Debbie's pieces, she also plans to dress as zombie Minnie. looking forward to seeing it all together.

Steve & Dana's pieces for the show. Steve just got back from a month long Artist's residency. Can't wait to see all the work he created.

What's on the drying rack tonight?

Tactile Treasures

I'm working on an embroidery project right now and in doing research, stumbled upon these wildly detailed, hand embroidered quilts by Anna Torma. They're keeping my brain moving on this weary Monday.

NYC Subway Photos

The New York Times has a great feature on the Subway today. Several photo's documenting the subway's history. The 80's/ 90's shots are particularly iconic. The city's photographers definitely took a little hit when the "zero tolerance" policy was instituted.

This is a carry-over post from my good friend Agustin. Thanks Ago!

While They're Wet.

Lately I've been taking in progress shots of my work. It helps me to take a step outside of the piece. Here are a couple from the "For Colored Girls" painting & others from the piece I'm working on right now.

Adam & Kate

Here's a little tribute to two of my absolute favorite people, Kate & Adam Amengual. Adam is an amazing photographer, I've used many of his photos as reference for my paintings (including these two).

I did these pieces for Kate's birthday this year.

Handbags by Day/ Watercolor by Night.

Little known fact: I daylight as a handbag designer. It's a fun job & it lets me play a bit with fashion, which I love.

I started working for an interesting company 6 months ago, they're known for being slightly over the top, this is good, keeps things moving. In any event, for the past three markets, I've been combining both the night & day gigs, doing paintings of handbags for the showrooms. Pretty fun. Here's a peek.

Can't take credit for the designs on these kiddies, I actually paint a different brand then I design.

Monsters and Zombies and Beasts, Oh My!

My good friend Debbie recently asked me to participate in Monster Mash, a Halloween mash up of Art, live music, and Kaiju madness. She's helping put the event together so I know it'll be great!

I'm excited to get a little bit gory with my watercolor. This Friday night will not be spent on the town, I'm gonna be holed up in my apt, drinking wine and turning my pretty paints into a bloody nightmare... CAN'T WAIT!!!

p.s. Debbie did this flyer, pretty great right? I'm a big fan of her gooey design stylings.

Skin is the new paper?

This is a carry-over post from my old blog that I had to rollover to this new one. Imitation may be the most sincere form of flattery but that flattery is taken to the next level when someone decides to wear something you've created, permanently, on their body. Personally, I think the tattoo artist that tattooed my "Cross" painting put the original to shame. Pretty sick!

Something to blog about...

I scrapped my old blog today, deciding to start from scratch. I'm hoping to turn this into a place for me to post works in progress, sketches, daily happenings and inspiration.

Very serendipitously, right on blog re-start day, Mr. Postman left a pleasant surprise on my doorstep. Movie posters for, "For colored girls" the new Tyler Perry movie, scheduled to open in theaters Nov 5th! The lovely people at Ignition print contacted me a little over 3 weeks ago to do the movie poster and they're already here! Damn Hollywood, you move fast!

Ok well, I've already said too much so I'm off for today.
